Adult Family Homes

An adult family home (AFH) is licensed to provide housing and care for up to six adults in a regular house located in a residential neighborhood. The AFH may be run by a family, single person, or business partners. The AFH may also hire other employees. In some homes, multiple languages are spoken. Participation is paid by the individual’s SSI/SSDI benefits or other sources of income.

  • Adult Family homes have a low turn over rate. You can deal with one provider for years.

  • Some Adult Family Homes allow pets

  • Adult Family Homes - Payment system- often leaves someone who lives on SSI an income of $60.00 to spend in the community per month.

  • The contract allows two people per bedroom

  • The contract focuses on the care of individuals in their home - does not require support outside of the home.

  • Adult Family Homes can be Co-Exist - Male and Female or Gender Specific Homes

  • Adult Family Home - due to contract regulations make it difficult for people to cook and do laundry

  • Each Adult Family Home is different based on the focus on clients served

  • 24-hour access to assistance with personal

    care in a provider’s home, licensed by Residential Care Services

    (RCS) to support 2 to 6 adults.
